Synopsis:
Citizens
who report to work on time, obey the Overlord’s laws, and stay off the Synbot’s

It’s
not a bad plan for someone with a hidden, emotion-based ability to trigger
earthquakes. In a world pitted against her, sixteen-year-old Rena Moon strives
for a life beyond working herself to death at the factory. Seeing an
alternative, she risks selling relics from the forbidden lands at Market. It
becomes the worst decision she ever made. Someone kidnaps her best friend in
exchange for the one thing that would end her oppression.
Driven
by loyalty, Rena and seventeen-year-old Nevan Jelani, soulful composer, green
thumb extraordinaire, and the secret love of her life, plot to rescue her
friend and reclaim her salvage. Still, the thought lingers whether Nevan is a
true hero or another thief waiting for his chance at her loot. Events spin
wildly, deepening Rena’s suspicions and pushing her limit of control. With more
than her chance for freedom at stake, she must decide if she’s willing to kill
to protect what’s precious to her. For once, the Overlord isn’t holding all the
power, but can Rena live with being reduced to what she’s trying so hard to
escape?
My Thoughts:
I
love dystopian fiction. This one is different from others that I have
read.
Rena
Moon is a 16 year old, who can’t help but to get into trouble at every turn.
She is one of those characters who, thinks that there has to be more then just
following the rules and staying under the radar. She is rebellious, and is
always trying to figure out a way to make her life better. Rena and her best
friend, escape one day to the forbidden land and after a triggered earth quake,
they find a cave full of things that Rena thinks she can sell to try and escape
her life. This goes well for her until her friend is taken for the one thing
Rena wants really badly. She is faced with a decision to give up what she has
to save her best friend. I really liked Rena, she is a little weird but with
what she has to deal with I don’t blame her. I wish it had explained a little
more about her and what she can do. It had a good engaging story line, and was
very interesting. It’s hard to imagine living a life like Rena’s. I also didn’t
believe the Instant connection between her and Nevan but he is full of his own
secrets, which makes him an interesting Bad boy sort of type.
Overall
this one is a good read. This one has an expected publication of June 2013.
